THE NORTHERN EMBASSY

BAPTISTS hail from Vancouver and play a crushing brand of hardcore that has them headed to the upper echelon of the genre – there’s a lot about the band to get excited about. After landing a deal with iconic metal label Southern Lord on the strength of a few songs released online, Baptists released Bushcraft (listen here) and hit the ground running.

Like most heavy bands, the proof is in the live show. Most of their press is riddled with Converge comparisons and references to Dave Grohl being stoked on their drummer but to really get a feel for them, check out the KEXP session above or their Rain City session from a while back.

Ever wonder who the man behind the indoor bicycle only park in Markham, Ontario (Joyride150) is? In a world where it has become easier and easier to talk the talk, Mark Summers walks the walk. Mark has had a passion for cycling most of his life and through Joyride 150, he has allowed many more to share this passion. Bike Mag have an interesting interview with Mark here ; from taking his wife on a bike ride on their 3rd date, to his 69′ Nova, and beyond, this is a very interesting read put together by Colin Field. Joyride 150 has done great things for the GTA BMX scene and on behalf of anyone who has ridden Joyride, thanks for keeping us sane all winter Mark!

As outsiders looking in, Winnipeg’s BMX scene is booming lately. The riders, parks, and shops are a huge reason for this, but also in part to Philippe Bellefeuille documenting the scene. He’s been making a somewhat-regular Youtube show called Da Peg Show for two years documenting what the Winnipeg scene has been up to in his own style, and we wanted to know a bit more. Check out a quick interview we did with him below.

Cayford Poster B&W Final
After a few years off, The Cayford Jam is returning to commemorate the ten year anniversary of Chris’ passing. Chris used to host a jam at the Winfield skatepark every year and it was always an awesome time – the Cayford jams are an effort to continue that tradition.

Expect a laid back day of riding at an awesome park. The sessions usually continue through the weekend at some of the other parks around the Okanagan. Macneil and 1664 are sending some goods and Cyclepath Kelowna will have a barbecue running.

Following up the first World Deece starting Roster Mixtape is a tough act to follow but James Dean and fellow Vancouver shredders (Carl Arnett, Chance Campbell, Chris Henry, Drew Morton, Grat Cox, James Dean, Jordan Hango, Ky Brisebois, Mike Matsen, Orlando, Brad Hill, Regan Miller, Ryan Hiebert and Thomas Arden) have really killed it in this V2 mixtape. There’s a ton of rad stuff from the World Deece super pro team throughout so hit play already and get trippy.

Filmed and edited by James Dean, check out Worlddeece.com
