THE NORTHERN EMBASSY

We’re extremely stoked to bring you the top 5 parts from our NE Hidden Gems contest. We had so many rad parts come through that we couldn’t be more stoked on the contest but these 5 take the cake. Do yourself a favor and watch all five of these edits from start to finish!

1st Place – Shawn Franz by Phil Bellefeuille

Shawn has been quietly killing it in Winnipeg the last couple of years now and this part is proof. Mix Shawn’s crazy tech/creative and smooth riding, Phil’s awesome filming/editing, Winnipeg street and Winnipeg’s own Harlequin and you have the first place part. There’s too much rad stuff throughout this edit to put anything specific here, watch it and get stoked.

2nd Place – Spencer Ryan by Tyler Rizzi

It was clear very early into this contest that Spencer Ryan was going to have an incredible part. Tyler had posted a couple pictures on instagram that had us all extremely excited to see this section, and it did not disappoint. These guys put in work hitting Toronto area roofs, ditches, and a ton more rad spots. Spencer has a style which reminds me of a modern day Van Homan, extremely talented but also has an eye for burlier stuff. This is an amazing part, awesome work guys!

3rd Place – Matt Comeau

Matt Comeau has been killing it in Ottawa for years, he’s that smooth/stylish dude who just seems as though he was born with skills on a bike. He recently moved to the Maritimes and has been taking advantage of new spots since the move. I think that Matt might be one of the most surprising parts to some based on how crazy a few of his street bangers really are. Again, we don’t want to give anything away but watch this from start to finish, there’s a few NBDs in here and that last clip!!!

4th Place – Ryan Ebbers by Connor Clark

Ryan Ebbers wins best intro without a doubt, it doesn’t get any more Canadian than that. Connor Clark did an amazing job with motion graphics, filming and editing in this one, apparently they even built the dirt setup specifically for this contest which is so rad. Ebbers is really dialed, does some amazing stuff throughout, whips both ways and is the only part we received to feature street, park and dirt riding.

5th Place – Drew Morton by James Dean

Drew comes through with some of the gnarliest street moves of any part we received, particularly his last few clips. James and Drew put in work for this an it shows, such a rad part. Worlddeece.com

Thanks to Dillon Lloyd, Jason Enns, Brandon Webster and Mike Gray for judging this, it couldn’t have been easy with how good these parts are.

Also a huge thanks to We the People, Odyssey, Etnies, MacNeil, Eclat, Fiend, Merritt, GoPro, Repset, Bmx Gallery 4130, Joyride 150, Federal and Sunday for supporting this rad contest with such amazing prizing.

Biggest thanks goes to all of you who put together these 18 amazing parts and made the contest as rad as it was!

Hey guys, you may have already noticed some changes in the layout of the site over the last week. We can’t thank Cory Beal enough for making this happen, the site is finally looking how we’ve wanted it to look since it’s creation almost 4 years ago now.

The biggest changes are the following:

FEATURES – Everything that is exclusive to Northern Embassy can be found simply by clicking that tab. In the past we’ve found alot of our exclusive content has gotten lost in the mix of everything else, this tab will change that.

EVENTS – This is still a work in progress but essentially our goal here is to have a calendar with a list of all BMX events across Canada so riders can have an easy go to to keep track of what is happening where and when. For now all flyers or event info will be tagged with events.

CONTACT & SUBMISSION – Our email and contact info was never super easy to find on the previous site, now if you have an edit you’d like us to post up you can simply fill out the form or email us at the email indicated in the contact section (northernembassy@gmail.com)

STORE – Updated store with hopefully a consistent flow of goods/stickers

Home – This is essentially exactly what the previous version of Northern Embassy was, everything we post can be found here

The goal of Northern Embassy has always been and always will be to allow Canadian riders to see what riders across this country are up to. This site wouldn’t exist without all it’s contributors, thanks so much to all of you! Enjoy the new layout and look forward to good things ahead!

Northern Embassy Coast to Coast tee

In celebration of the new site, we got some tees printed which you can snag off our shop here or hit us up by email (NorthernEmbassy@gmail.com) if you’re in the Vancouver, or Toronto area for local pickup. NE print on the front and big logo on the back.

“Well… here it is. A loose cannon edit of the Rexdale Trails. The trails are in their 20th year in 2014 but this is in no way a documentary of all those years. Edited with footage from about ’08 to 2012. Its raw and of somewhat poor quality and does not show the current Amazing condition they’re in now, but its killer none the less. It was going to be a bonus section on the latest I.C.C. video but it was a little to long. Anyways, grab some beers, light one up and turn it up!” Ben Rinne

The Ferda boys killin their local park (POCO) on a daily basis.

Tsawwassen BC’s Braeden Barnard is a dude who makes shit happen. Spending some time in Mexico last winter he build la Granja. If you’ve ever had some interest in quick-creting or building some tranny out of concrete, you’ll enjoy this video.

“Do It Yourself BMX project. Built and funded by BMX riders with curvature research. Designed for minimal cost and high re-usability. Steel box tubing is bent to the desired radius to create the perfect contact surface for ramp curvature. Two tubes strategically placed and re-used multiple times lays out flat faces. Fill in corners with radius trowel . Set the decks on and round out the tops. Pour in the Flat bottoms and you’re done.”

A road tip I took part in to Montana from Winnipeg in search of beer, bars, barbeques and bowls.

A bunch of rad Vancouver and Victoria, BC locals in this one. “Sometimes immigrant problems aren’t all bad.” Kerr Bilsland

Riders: Thomas Arden, Jordan Fair, Chance Campbell, Jordan Hango, Jesse Hildebrandt, Evan Farmer, Riley McMaster and Jason Teet.

Thanks for being patient with us on announcing these, below are sixth place through tenth place. The judges had their work cut out for them (thanks again to Dillon Lloyd, Mike Gray, Brandon Webster and Jason Enns), and here’s the proof. All 5 of these edits are amazing and could have easily won, every one of these guys put in work and it shows. Stay tuned for top 5 soon…

6th Mitch Radcliffe – Mitch has a rad all around style, he charges shit but also get tech (that 180 ice 180 is so smooth). Mix Mitch’s amazing riding with some awesome filming/editing and you get this amazing edit that just missed making top 5. Burly ass bangers at the end as well!

7th Drew Wood – Drew has that steezy style that most of us wish we had; his whips are almost as steezy as Dehart’s and he kills it throughout this part. Drew even had to do some landscaping to get that curved wallride done.

8th Kalvin Sexsmith – Mix Kalvin’s crazy riding with his amazing backyard bowl and likely the most legendary trails in Canada and you get one hell of a watch. Kelsey Clarke did an amazing job filming and editing this, enjoyed every second of this one.

9th Francis La – Francis has never put something together that hasn’t been a good watch and this part is no exception. Lots of creative riding and spots throughout, he may very well be the first rider to nose wheelie 180 rolling down stairs, another great Francis La part.

10th Jason Kearnan – Jason tears his local park of Courtice a new one. So much amazing riding in this one and an awesome summer vibe at your local part throughout. Filmed and edited perfectly by Kyle Smail.

NHL-Fantasy-Hockey

A couple winters ago we hosted an Northern Embassy hockey pool. We’ve had a few people ask to do one again this year, we’ve created a yahoo pool but it’s not quite as simple as the old CBC pool. There needs to be a draft so if you are interested in joining please comment here or email us (northernembassy@gmail.com) asap with your email address so we can add you to the pool. As much as winter is brutal, the new season is only two days away!!
