THE NORTHERN EMBASSY

Wowww what a great way to start the week! The Luxury dudes have just blessed the internet with their new full-length project “Know New Friends”. This video has been over two years in the making, with multiple trips taking the crew to Texas, Seattle, Vancouver, and back to their home base of Ontario. These dudes go IN, so hit play.

Man, I can’t wait for this one! Guelph’s very own bmx all-star team, Luxury, has been working on their newest full-length “Know New Friends” for a minute now. Judging by their promo, it’s going to be heavy. Keep your eyes peeled on the site for the full video dropping soon.

Often when I plan out a No Bikes trip it’s centered around visiting a single park, or a few parks that are clustered in the same area. For our trip in 2018, that skatepark that really captured my imagination was the “Thunderpark” in Montana. The park is one of the (now) many Evergreen Skateparks built in the state, and beyond the unique concepts in the park layout, the backstory behind the park was really intriguing. Throughout Montana, skateparks have been built in small towns and on reservations as part of the Montana Pool Service movement with Jeff Ament from the band Pearl Jam as the leading force. In my travels, I’ve always had the best time riding parks in small towns, and these parks look especially good.

Harley is a dude who’s been in the Canadian scene for a minute, and his involvement in BMX goes way beyond leaving sick tire marks on walls around the Toronto area. Harley is an incredible artist whose work has been a quintessential part of some of the biggest brands out. (more…)

We’ve got a fresh exclusive video courtesy of Austin Odegnal and the 403CREW. With their local indoor, B-Line Bike Park in Calgary closed due to the Alberta COVID restrictions, the squad road tripped to Victoria and Vancouver for some outdoor riding back in March. They luckily timed their trip before the full travel restrictions came into effect in British Columbia. Check out the video above and read on for a quick interview with Austin and some of the crew.

We have another Embassy Exclusive Video from Thomas More out of Pickering, Ontario. I’ve had a bunch of sessions with Thomas over the long Canadian winters at Joyride 150 and he’s always super positive and killing it. Thomas has some unique moves mixed with dialed tech tricks. I reached out to see what he’s been up to and to get some insight on his new video.

Alaska was a dream trip that was a decade in the making. Since we started doing No Bikes trips in 2009, the general theme has been to go to interesting places, often out of the way, to ride cool stuff. Although Alaska was always bound to meet the first two criteria, the third is an open question to most people. I know that there is a lot to ride in AK, but others have found that idea to be somewhat unbelievable. After ten years of evolving crews and memorable trips to Washington (twice), Oregon (three times), Montana (twice), Utah, and BC (twice), six of my favorite people came to visit my favorite place. The above video contains nine minutes of highlights from the summer of 2019. Read on for some photos to preview a ‘zine that will come out later this year (for those who like hard copies, and want to know more about Alaska and this trip).

Back in December 2020 when we were planning our re-launch for the Northern Embassy, the admin team released an audience survey. Our aim was to get some insights on our community so we could build out content that people would be stoked on. Andy McGrath was one of about a hundred riders who submitted responses. In his survey submission, he shared a private link to a video he filmed of Lynden Chartrand. I’d seen Lynden’s name pop up periodically in random BMX media before, but I honestly wasn’t too familiar with his riding. I watched the video and immediately shared it with the admin team. After viewing 4+ minutes of hammers and exceptional spot use, it was clear we wanted to learn more about the guy. I reached out to Lynden and Andy to see if they’d be down for an interview. They obliged and a few months later, here we are. Dive in to get to know one of Canada’s grittiest 20-something street riders…
