THE NORTHERN EMBASSY

From Jane Strip to ScarTown – 2007

It may seem like a heavy week of content from Chris Silva after his recent MacNeil web edit, but for the last few week’s he has been uploading all the past Inner City Circle videos. Just yesterday he put up 2007’s From Jane Strip to ScarTown, the previous week saw 2005’s That’s What I’m Talking About, and the week prior he uploaded 2004’s Lock and Load. These videos are steeped in Toronto BMX nostalgia as they epitomized how the city was seen by outsiders at the time, and the influences inside it. The ICC videos always ran a fine line between being a scene video and a crew video. Who they filmed and who was considered as part of that inner circle (no pun intended) was kept on a short leash. However, the videos are full of memorable riding and loads of unforgettable quirks such as skits, characters, sound effects (gun shots), nicknames, original music, and jokes.

You can watch the last three videos below with riding from Chris Silva, George Carijutan (Armani), (Drifter) Dave Stewart, Enrique Abarca (Butta), Adrian Ellis [E], Leland Nightingale, Patrick Krzyzanowski, Taro Saito, and lots more. There’s still one more video to date from the ICC so maybe that will make its way online soon…

Today is hockey day in Canada, be sure to tune in to CBC at some point today to watch your favorite Canadian team. On a somewhat related note, if you haven’t yet watched “Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story” make sure to check it out. If you’re already a Don Cherry fan it’ll make you appreciate him even more and if you aren’t fan, it will may turn you into one.

“If my aunt had balls, she’d be my uncle” Don Cherry, minutes after the Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs by the Canadiens in game 7, which would be the last game he ever coached in the NHL.

I’m excited to say that we have our first Embassy t-shirts for sale. These were designed by Brad Hill and are printed on American Apparel summer t’s (for a soft feel and a long fit – recommended to go up one size). Each shirt also comes with a matching sticker (courtesy of Twisted Sticker) and button (pressed in Montreal by 514 BMX)

We have a limited batch of 50 of these in our online store for $25 (plus $5 shipping to anywhere in Canada) and they are going to go fast. Check out more details and photos below and swoop one up in our shop.
