“I came to Van in 99 on March break with a friend to ride skateparks. I met Surrey Steve and hung out with him a bunch on that trip. I moved to Vancouver in th fall of 2002, after I graduated. The friends you make through BMX last more than anything. I never thought that in 2014 I’d be 30 and still riding and out with the same people I rode with at 16. Gotta love bikes.”

All stoner jokes aside, here are a couple edits from 420 jams that occurred just 10 days ago in different parts of the country. Above is a quick edit from a jam that happened in Edmonton, AB at the Callingwood Skatepark, filmed by Richard Harding and edited by Jared Chilko. Below is a video from the annual BMXFU 420 Jam, held in Niagara Falls, ON with a crazy roof drop at the end. Rastafarian colours and smoke clips abound.

Adam Piatek is everyone’s kid brother. He’s a mild mannered, polite young man who’s riding speaks louder than words. Hailing from beautiful Port Moody, BC, Adam was fortunate to grow up riding historical Lafarge and Poco/Railside. It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Adam has recently broken his collarbone, only a few days after we finished up this interview. Read on to learn a few things about one of Canada’s brightest up and comers and once you’ve done that, send some kind words/healing vibes his way.

Through the years, I’ve seen a lot of wild skatepark designs. This one might be the most intersting. The Street Dome in Haderslev, Denmark is a massive indoor/outdoor project headed up by the design firm of legendary Danish vert skater Rune Glifberg and built by Seattle concrete masters, Grindline.

The defining feature of the park, the dome, is built to house a bunch of bowls. It’s also incorporated into the design of the outdoor section, with giant banks and quarterpipes running up the side. Usually, I’m interested in skatepark design for cool new shapes – clam shells, cradle variations, etc. This is different. Although there is nothing new about the transitions in this park, the dome is both aesthetically and functionally awesome. It keeps some of the park out of the rain, and allows for some cool features up the outside of it.

With a budget of 3.6 million Euros ($5.5 million CAD), it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see a project like this on our side of the Atlantic, but it sure is fun to look at.

Spring is finally here, and for many people across the country that also means pool season. This is your short window in the year to find, drain, clean, and ride a pool. Whenever I think of riding pools I think back to the spring of 2009 when I lived in Ottawa and a small group of dedicated friends (with Jeff Bedard leading the charge) were on a quest to ride as many pools as they could. This blue number in particular was one of the few missions I was lucky enough to tag along on. While we are talking about pools, go back and visit the Green Acres Pool Party video and story that Riley did last June.

Whenever I go through some of our older videos, I always end up on this edit from Jared Chilko we brought you in 2012. At the time, a lot of people’s idea of Jared’s riding was rooted in a handful of Edmonton area skateparks, clicked lookbacks, and big airs out of quarters (as did I). When he approached us about releasing this video he made for his at-the-time sponsor we enthusiastically said yes, and it was hugely different. Short and sweet, full of interesting set ups, pedal ices (the shot of the long one on the flat ledge is fantastic), strong filming, well edited, and good music. You can’t go wrong.
