Presence – 2009

Jeremy Deme, who is essentially the pilot of this ship that we call Embassy, is obviously too modest to post his past projects on the site, but he recently uploaded both full length Presence DVDs. These videos, much like the ICC videos we wrote about last week, blurred the line between a crew video and a scene video and really displayed the sense of community amongst a group of riders in Montreal during that time period. Both videos were Quebec centric with standout parts (in both videos) from Corey Dewey and Greg Flag, as well as Justin Kirnan, Dillon Lloyd, Mike Cardin, Albert Krolikowski, Mike Fiz, and a whole lot more, while the later video even featured riders from outside the province such as Luke Santucci, Taylor Elvy, and Isaac Barnes

You can watch the self titled video above (I always thought the riding, filming, editing, and music in Eric Trepanier’s opening part was a perfect combination), and click below to watch the awkwardly titled You Know Time It Is? from 2010.

The 2012 Toronto BMX Jam is quickly approaching. It has longstanding been the biggest BMX event in Canada, and the first major event of the year. I’m aware that some riders may feel that the once momentous event has evolved in to nothing more than a dull roar to signify the end of winter, but I believe that this year’s event may change that. The often rumoured Metro Jam series ramps are reportedly finally being brought out of storage and used on the course, along with brand new wooden ramps being built for the event. You can check out a 360 degree view of the course in the video above.

Along with a mix of professional riders from Reed Stark to Drew Bezanson and Dennis Enarson, this year’s event will also include light hearted events such as a game of B.I.K.E., a footdown contest, and Darryl Nau as the event announcer. To me it sounds like this year’s event is shaping up to be the best one in years. Make sure you make it out to the Toronto BMX Jam from March 2nd – 4th.

We’ve shown you a sneak peek before, but here is the official trailer for the Ebajada En Barcelona DVD from our trip to Spain back in December 2011. The DVD will be available very soon, but we thought we’d show you what’s in store.  A little over 20 minutes long and lots of bonus material, with riding from Greg Flag, Taylor Elvy, Dillon Lloyd, Jeff Evans, Ryan Hiebert, Jeremy Deme, Albert Krolikowski, Cory Beal, Sean Cooke, Luke Santucci, and Prashant Gopal. Plenty of people, teams, and crews have visited Barcelona before to ride, and produced amazing web edits, but we wanted a dvd that we could hold on to and share.

The DVD will be available in our online shop very soon in a limited quantity as a special package with a 32 page zine from Yo Sick titled Bueno. It will also be available in finer shops across the country. Check out a couple more photos of what you can find inside the zine below, and hold on tight for these to become available very soon. If you are shop interested in carrying the DVD please contact us at northernembassy@gmail.com.

Scott Barker (who’s work we love and have featured in the past) releases an online zine with almost every BMXFU video release. This time it’s a month or so after the DVD has dropped, but better late than never. Scott has released the zine as a separate Tumblr site featuring a HUGE selection of photos by himself and numerous other photographers, as well as some audio mixtapes and short video edits. Check out the BMXFU Zine and don’t stop scrolling.

From Jane Strip to ScarTown – 2007

It may seem like a heavy week of content from Chris Silva after his recent MacNeil web edit, but for the last few week’s he has been uploading all the past Inner City Circle videos. Just yesterday he put up 2007’s From Jane Strip to ScarTown, the previous week saw 2005’s That’s What I’m Talking About, and the week prior he uploaded 2004’s Lock and Load. These videos are steeped in Toronto BMX nostalgia as they epitomized how the city was seen by outsiders at the time, and the influences inside it. The ICC videos always ran a fine line between being a scene video and a crew video. Who they filmed and who was considered as part of that inner circle (no pun intended) was kept on a short leash. However, the videos are full of memorable riding and loads of unforgettable quirks such as skits, characters, sound effects (gun shots), nicknames, original music, and jokes.

You can watch the last three videos below with riding from Chris Silva, George Carijutan (Armani), (Drifter) Dave Stewart, Enrique Abarca (Butta), Adrian Ellis [E], Leland Nightingale, Patrick Krzyzanowski, Taro Saito, and lots more. There’s still one more video to date from the ICC so maybe that will make its way online soon…

I’m excited to say that we have our first Embassy t-shirts for sale. These were designed by Brad Hill and are printed on American Apparel summer t’s (for a soft feel and a long fit – recommended to go up one size). Each shirt also comes with a matching sticker (courtesy of Twisted Sticker) and button (pressed in Montreal by 514 BMX)

We have a limited batch of 50 of these in our online store for $25 (plus $5 shipping to anywhere in Canada) and they are going to go fast. Check out more details and photos below and swoop one up in our shop.

Classic Chris Silva sequence shot by Colin Field for client 1664 in the past.

Those that pay attention to the minutia of Canadian BMX over the years will be familiar with the work of Colin Field. He’s shot for numerous cycling publications over the years such Pedal, Dandyhorse, Ride UK, Transworld Ride BMX, Chase as well as plenty of other skate, ski, kayak and general outdoorsy magazines and clients (as well as being one of the very few bike riders that got to ride the SBC Media miniramp). He just recently unearthed and blogged about a small handful of BMX photos from the mid 2000’s that were shot in and around Southern Ontario. Click here to check them out, and take a poke around the rest of his site COLINEFIELD.COM while you are at it.
