Stoked for the BNE dvd to drop on 2016!! Here’s the official teaser.
Atlantis Vancouver have had a busy year; from opening the brick and mortar, stacking the team, hosting jams/ TAIFs, a team trip to Victoria and now dropping a dvd: ‘Battle of the Birds‘.
Although he’s humble about it, Orlando is the man behind Atlantis and he’s the reason all of this has happened. If you also didn’t know, Orlando owns and operates The Make, in between holding the shop down 7 days a week and riding as much as possible. Orlando is truly making a difference in the Vancouver scene.
Battle of the Birds is a film which anyone who has ever rode street should enjoy. It is also a film which should motivate anyone who hasn’t rode Vancouver before to make the trip. The overall vibe of the film makes you feel as if you are out cruising with the sip city crew, but don’t be fooled, it’s not too mellow by any means. With guys like Hango, Carl, Greg Flag, Andrew Schubert, Matt Desson, Luke Santucci, in the mix, you know it’s banging.
Hango starts off and shuts the DVD down in typical Hango fashion. The expression “dude has no chill” likely started based on Hango riding a bike. Without spoiling it, Hango’s ender is something which I truthfully don’t know if anyone but Hango could do, and in casual Hango fashion. The world has needed more Greg Flag footage for some time now and Battle of the Birds comes through with a good amount. Greg makes everything look too easy in Greg fashion. Carl Arnett also has some insane high speed stuff and an eye for different stunts on new and old spots. There’s also a ton of other Vancouver shredders who really come through with some awesome clips (Jeff Evans, Dave Scott, Ryan Hiebert, Orlando, Brad Hill, Andy Roode and more). One of my personal favorite clips of the film is Dave Scott’s bar to manual downtown that is filmed flawlessly and really screams Vancouver.
Although Vancouver has been criticized for “blown out” spots over the years, “Battle of the Birds” proves that to be wrong with lots of new and old spots used in different ways. These guys are searching and finding.
The only negative aspect of this dvd that I can think of is the fact that it is limited to 200 copies. If you don’t have a copy yet, there’s a good chance there’s not many left to cop so don’t sleep on it!! Atlantis are selling the dvd for $0.01 (or free if you spend $19.99 in the web store), cop one here and grab a couple other items while your at it to support a dude who is truly making a difference for BMX in Vancouver/ Canada.

Not too sure how I feel about instagram best of videos but Joel Dykstra is good so here’s one for 3Ride.
The dude, the man, the homie, the cat, Chris Cadot! Chris was added to the 1664 team over the summer and has been filming for this gem ever since. Cadot is a tech/steez wizard, don’t sleep on this dude, hit play already.
A few of us were fortunate enough to see some of this madness in person! When Corey Martinez, Chris Childs, Matt Nordstrom and Dillon Lloyd session together for a few days, in an incredible city for spots (with Justin Hughes spot guiding), you get a banger edit. Highlights include Corey Martinez’ uprail to launch and hanger nose at the big o, pretty sure no one ever imagined that possible, Chris Childs gaping to hanger (and ice) which had never been done and his ridiculously huge wallride, Dill’s truck and uprail stuntery, essentially it’s 3:34 of highlights.
We are extremely excited to announce the first, of hopefully many, annual Canadian Street Invitational at Joyride 150, January 9th, 2016.
With so many awesome international BMX events, it’s no secret that Canada has been lacking a unique/ special BMX event for some time now. With Canadian riding at an all time high, it only made sense to organize an event with the mindset of showcasing the incredible talent Canada is fortunate to have. Where else than the incredible Joyride 150 bike park street room.
The Canadian Street Invitational is simple, 10 Canadian pros are invited/confirmed:
-Dillon Lloyd (Team Captain)
-Mike Gray (Team Captain)
-Ryan Eles
-Brandon Webster
-Eli Taylor
-Justin Hughes
-Gabe Truax
-Dean Hartley
-Spencer Ryan
-Chijioke Okafo
These pros will be randomly divided into two groups, with the team captains of these two groups being Dillon Lloyd and Mike Gray. These two pro groups will each have 30 minutes each to session the street room of Joyride 150. After both groups the judges will tally their votes and decide which group has won the Cup and the Cash.
Before the Pro groups, there will be a one hour Expert jam/session where experts can session the street room without the pressure of heats/runs. The two pro groups will be watching the experts and each pro group will select one expert each to win a WTP and Haro prize pack, and also to ride in the pro groups immediately following the experts.
The schedule is as follows:
7pm Practice
8pm Expert Jam
9pm Pro groups
We can’t thank Joyride 150 enough for allowing this idea to come to life. We also have to send a huge thanks to WethePeople, Haro, Vans, Eclat, Radio, Merritt, Federal and Fiend for helping make this happen with their generosity in prizing and cash prizes.
This is sure to be an awesome time, with so many incredible riders within the 10 invited pros and the sure to be a ton of amazing experts, we’re excited to show the world that Canada is doing things right! Of course we will be filming the event and we will have a recap feature on here if you can’t make it out.
