The Stweet crew crank up the heat once again out of Saguenay, QC. We caught up with Evans Murray to get some info on the vid, the crew and Saguenay in general to coinicide with yet another banger video from the squad.

When and where did the “STWEETcrew” start?
Ça commencé en 2014, on était un bon groupe de jeune à rider au skate-park de l’église. Puis à force de rouler ensemble on a décidé, comme un peu partout, de s’identifier sous un nom et c’est comme ça qu’on est devenu le Stweetcrew.
It started in 2014, we were a good group of youngens who would ride the church skatepark. After riding together a while , like a lot of other places, we decided to identify ourselves with a name and just like that, Stweetcrew was born.

Au début on était un bon groupe de rider ; Alex Riverin, Dave Pilote, Evans Murray, Keven Minier, Marc-Alexandre Plourde, Mathieu Plante, Nicolas Gauthier, Olivier Croft, Simon Lessard et William Pilote. Maintenant, on a perdu des guerriers mais on est rendu international avec notre nouveau rider français, Thibaut Weber, qui s’est installé au Saguenay il y a environ 1 an! Notre crew consiste présentement de William, Thibaut, Olivier, Keven et Evans.
At first we were a good group of riders: ; Alex Riverin, Dave Pilote, Evans Murray, Keven Minier, Marc-Alexandre Plourde, Mathieu Plante, Nicolas Gauthier, Olivier Croft, Simon Lessard and William Pilote. We’ve lost some soldiers over the years but we’ve also become international with Thibaut Weber who made the move from France to Saguneay about a year ago. The crew is essentially William, Thibaut, Olivier, Keven et Evans.

What’s up with the name?
Une soirée en février 2014, ont étaient chez Dave, puis à force que la soirée et l’alcool avançait, ont a commencés à sortir des variantes du mot « STREET ». De fil en aiguille, le nom « STWEET » a sorti et le reste c’est de l’histoire. La partie drôle du nom, c’est que personne est capable de le prononcer comme il faut, dû à notre bel accent de saguenéens pas habitués de parler en anglais.
One night in Feb 2014, we were at Dave’s, drinks were flowing, we started messing with different ways of saying “street”. Stweet came out and just worked. Fittingly enough no one can actually say it right besides us due to the Saguenay accent and the fact we rarely speak any English.
Combien de vidéos est-ce que vous avez faites à date? Quel est-tu le plus fier?
How many videos have you done to date and which are you most proud of?
Nous avons fait pas loin d’une vingtaines de vidéos, dont 5-6 qui nous représentent beaucoup plus. À chaque été depuis 2014, nous avons sorti un vidéo street filmé au Saguenay Lac-st jean. Nous avons filmé du vélo de montagne, des vidéos de dirts et plusieurs vidéos à l’intérieur du skate-park de l’église, qui a malheureusement fermé ses portes l’hiver passée. Mais le vidéo qui nous rend le plus fière, c’est le vidéo de l’été 2017 ‘’Full of Grace’’. Il est rempli de beaux souvenirs, de grosses manœuvres. Mais c’étais surtout un gros été de BMX où tout le monde s’est pousser à fond pour avoir le meilleur film possible!
We’ve filmed just under 20 videos now, which 5-6 represent us best. Since summer 2014 we’ve filmed a street video each and every summer. We’ve also filmed some MTB videos, dirt jump videos and a bunch of videos from the indoor church park that unfortunately closed it’s doors last winter. The video we’re most proud of is from the summer of 2017, “Full of Grace”. It’s full of good souvenirs and burly tricks. It was the biggest summer of BMX for us where everyone really pushed themselves for the best possible end result.

Je crois que le premier clip a été filmé à la fin du mois de mai et le dernier clip date de la fin octobre.
I believe the first clip was filmed mid may and the last at the end of October.

Comment est ce l’église/la fermeture de l’église vous a affecté comme rider en sag?
How did the closing of the church indoor park affect you guys?
Le skate park de l’église c’était, je dirais, comme notre paradis. Depuis 2006 qu’il y avait des gros modules pour faire notre sport. Nous pouvions développer plusieurs style de riding comme la ramp et le street. Plusieurs jeunes ont grandit là. C’était une belle établissement pour nous développez durant les 7 mois d’hivers qu’elle était ouverte. L’église a du fermé à cause que le bâtiment commençait a être magané et ça coûtait beaucoup trop chère à la ville de Saguenay pour la rénover. Le fait de perdre notre église nous a beaucoup affecté, personnellement je pouvais y aller jusqu’à 3 fois par semaines. Juste pour dire à qu’elle point faire du vélo durant l’hiver faisait partie de notre quotidien.
The Church skatepark was our paradise honestly. Since 2006 we’ve had the luxury of big indoor ramps to ride. We were able to develop different styles as a result of these ramps and street riding. Many young riders grew up there. We truly were able to progress every year during the 7 months of Saguenay winter. It closed because the building was in rough shape and costing the town too much to renovate and keep going. To lose our church affected us in a big way, personally I was riding there 3 days a week. Just to give you an idea of how much it allowed us to ride during the winter.

J’aimerais bien continué la tradition de faire un gros vidéo street comme à chaque été. Je sais que des gars comme Keven et Thibaut vont toujours être crainquer de filmer pour une part ahaha! S’aventurer à l’extérieur du Saguenay Lac St-Jean est probablement notre plus gros défi. Si au moins y pouvait avoir des riders de l’extérieur qui vennait exploiter notre belle région! Vous auriez pas de problème avec les policiers , ils nous aiment biens. On se fait presque jamais kick-out lorsqu’on film
We’d love to continue the tradition and produce one big street video every summer. I know that guys like Keven and Thibaut will always be motivated enough to film parts haha. Adventuring out of Saguenay is probably our biggest feat. If some riders wanted to come up and shred with us, obviously that would be awesome! You’d have no issues with the cops, they love us. We almost never get the boot out of any spots as a result.
