Back in May we posted about Trevor Oleniuk’s maiden trip in his new van he purchased and fitted with a bed and living supplies as he set out on a US odyssey. He has long since finished the trip and sent through a few photos and some deep words about what his trip meant to him. Check it all below and you can find more on his site here.

Sometimes when you least expect it, the sky turns black and the heavens unleash the wildest storm you’ve ever experienced. When you’re in the midst of it, you think it won’t ever stop. But when it passes you have a perfect view of what remains. While you stare up from the collapse, you can choose to drown or you can swim your ass off to high water. I think we’ve all experienced dark days. Maybe some of us feel them longer or harder than others. Worse still, some get entirely consumed by their shadows and don’t make it through. Regardless of depth, the perils of depression cause anyone to become unhinged and imbalanced. There is no need to hit rock bottom, but at least acknowledging the low points is hopefully enough to look up and try to find hope in something.

Maybe you don’t need to do something radical like buy a van and drive 16,000 KM (spanning 5 provinces and 15 states) as a way to find happiness and discover what provides you with meaning. But no one can ever tell you that. No one can tell you how to live, but you need to live. To just wake up every day and find some reason to keep going. This is what #vanlife represented for me, and it has given me the opportunity to realize what matters in life: Eating good food, Riding bikes, and Loving every moment, every person, and every experience that comes my way. I am so grateful for the experiences that I had this summer. It has given me such a positive outlook on life. I no longer care about what people think of me. It’s none of my business what negative thoughts occupy their heads. I’m just going to keep going. You should too.
